"Sir, if you send him back with two hundred dollars you can keep him until midnight."

"I don't think I'll need him that long. Would you like to speak to Michael? Here Michael, speak to your father."

I assured my father that he seemed to be on the level. Mr. Sawyer replaced the phone and told Eva to set the table. She languidly disappeared into the kitchen for a moment and returned with a stack of trays and silverware, as well as two more wine glasses.

Eva served the food that I had brought and she poured me a glass of wine.

"Michael I've got to say that I'm very glad that you are a man of discretion. This conversation might have been very different otherwise. You see, Eva and I value our privacy very greatly, and if you had already spoken to your parents I would have had to include them in our discussion. We don't want Eva to become a subject of gossip, and so we need your help. We need you to continue as you have so far. As though nothing strange ever happened. I realize that this is an unusual request and that is why I am sending you back to your father with so much money, of course I realize he will take this money and I will be happy to include another two-hundred for you yourself. Provided you remain silent."

"Yes, sir."

"It's very important that you remain silent. If you don't it will be very inconvenient for Eva and myself. If you don't I'm afraid that some associates of mine will make things very inconvenient for you and your family. If you understand what I mean. Do you understand what I mean."

"I'm afraid that I do, Mr. Sawyer."

"Don't worry, Michael. Nothing will happen as long as you remain discreet." Said Eva. "Your mother is an excellent cook, Michael."

"Thank you, sir. Mr. Sawyer, I understand why you wanted to talk to me. Why did you buy so much time from my father, I promise I won't say anything, I could leave and be back by 7:30."

"Michael," Began Sawyer again, "you've been coming here regularly for some time. What do you think of Eva?"

"She's always very polite, she tips well."

Sawyer laughed a little.

"That's not what I meant, Michael."

"I don't understand, Mr. Sawyer." I understood.

"He wants to know if you think I'm pretty, Michael."

"I think she's pretty, Mr. Sawyer."

"Do you know what Eva does here?"

"Yes, sir."

"Michael, I'm going to give you a lot of money, which you know I don't need to do, because I get the feeling that you would go ahead and remain discreet on your own. Now that we've met."

"Yes, sir."

"I'm giving you the money to thank you, and Eva would like to thank you as well."

"Sir?"

"Would you like to sleep with me, Michael?" Eva looked at me squarely.

I looked at my feet. The tough outcast that is supposed to carry a knife looked at his feet.

"I thought you might appreciate that, maybe even more than the money."
