"Not today, I've got someone waiting in the car."

"As you like it, man. You say you want two-hundred worth? That's a bit more than your usual, you know I don't discount for volume."

"Yeah, I'm just kind of looking to cut down on the frequency of my purchases, you know, the less I'm driving around with shit on me, the better."

"I hear you, but you should know, and I'm only telling you cause your my friend, I find that the more someone buys the faster they go through it, which is good for my business, but you know if you over do that shit, it'll do a fucking number on you."

"Thanks for the warning, but I'm cool, it's just kind of a long trip over here to be making once a week."

"Well, you can do what you want, I ain't your mother, my friend, give me a minute I'll get your gear."

Joey was a hippy, and I don't know how he ended up in heroin. It wasn't in his personality, marijuana made sense for Joey, mushrooms made sense for Joey, he didn't live a heroin lifestyle. He probably tried it in some period when he was trying a little bit of everything and decided he liked it. I've never met anyone that didn't like heroin. But it made me feel a little bad seeing Joey when he was on it, he had probably convinced himself that he was doing it because it was fun, and he liked to have fun, he wouldn't be able to admit he needed it now, drugs weren't supposed to be like that for him, they were supposed to be a tool that allowed him to enjoy life, not a necessity.

"Here you are go, dude. It's a pretty thing isn't it."

"Thanks, Joey." I unfolded two bills and put them on his coffee table.

"Man, where do you get this kind of dough? I've seen the car you drive, you're always dressed in those slick threads, you sure as hell aren't sticking up people at the ATM like half the guys that buy from me do. Course I don't let those guys in my pad, but much as you buy from me, I always get the feeling you're doing a little better for yourself than I am."

"Let's just say that if anyone knew that I was doing this stuff," I held up the bag, "then I would never be allowed to do what I do again. Even if I got clean, even if I sat in prison for a stretch."

"Well then I suggest you don't get caught, man, I'd hate to lose your business, if I had a kid, you'd be putting them through college."

"Thanks again, I'll give you a call next time I'm coming around."

"All right, brother. Try to pick a time you can stick around for awhile, we haven't gotten to chill for a bit."

"Sounds good."

"Be seeing, you."

I really didn't like what Joey had told me about the junkies he sold to. I didn't want him to get busted, it would be really inconvenient to me.

"What the fuck took you so long? You get the stuff?"

"Of course I got the stuff. You still want to go to the park?"

"Yeah, there's a taco truck parked down there, I thought we'd buy ourselves a few tacos, climb the hill, smoke a bowl and do a little feasting."
