The rest of the guys are always talking about what they think about being here, is it worth it, is it pointless, will they feel bad when it's all over and they've killed however many men that they may. I just want to go home. I want to go back to working in the store, I want to go back to Lorraine. Sawyer is always talking about how much he hates it, how much he hates everyone and everything that is forcing him to be here. I don't care. I don't think about it, I don't sit here hating the brass, or the Germans, or anyone involved in the thing.
I'd just as soon see us all go home tomorrow. I don't care if from now on we call Europe Germany. I don't care if we have to call the whole damn world Germany. I don't care if my kids learn to speak German. I just want to go home. I want to have kids. So I'm looking for the quickest, safest way home. Right now that's fighting like everyone else. If I surrendered to the Germans I'd spend the rest of the war here, God knows how long this might go,
